A frontline women group in Akwa Ibom State, Akwa Ibom Market Women, Ikot Ekpene Chapter has given its nod to the second term ambition of Governor Udom Emmanuel.
The women made the endorsement recently when Mrs Nse Etido Inyang, wife of Engr. Etido Inyang, played host to them in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area where she assisted them with incentives meant to boost their individual businesses and enhance their collective interest as a co-operative society.
Re-affirming their support to the reelection of Governor Emmanuel, a state executive officer of the group, Evangelist Stella Umoh said politically, Ikot Ekpene women have always identified with the decision of stakeholders in the area to support government’s cause for general benefit.
‘We have always done this to avoid regrettable mistakes in the future. 2019 won’t be different. We have resolved to mobilize voters for the second term bid of the governor’.
Evangelist Umoh appreciated their benefactor and her husband, Engr. Etido Inyang whom she described as ‘sensitive to the welfare of Ikot Ekpene women’ and ‘passionate about their progress’.
The women promised to always follow the political directives of the couple since they have both proven to be trustworthy and dependable.
Also speaking, President of Akwa Ibom Market Women, Ikot Ekpene Chapter, Deac. Helen Hope thanked Engr. Etido Inyang and wife for obliging to the needs of market women.
She said the timely response and assistance to their cooperative programme will boost their businesses and the trickle down effects will be visible as their lots and that of their families will be improved. The President reiterated that come 2019, the women will stand behind Governor Udom Emmanuel.
She acknowledged the commitment of Mrs Nse Inyang to God’s service. This she noted has been the reason for their successes. The chapter president advised her members to make judicious use of empowerment facility and not to divert it to other needs outside their businesses.
She disclosed that about 300 indigenes including 20 market women were trained last December in catering, soap making and hair-styling to improve their means of livelihood. The training, she added was facilitated by Engr. Etido Inyang through her business identity, ELCO.
In her response, the benefactor, Mrs Etido Inyang acknowledged the commitment of the women and commended for their collective belief in the reelection bid of Governor Emmanuel. She admonished them against going astray as election year approaches, saying Udom remains the best option for them and for Akwa Ibom State.
Making the cash donation on behalf the husband, Mrs Inyang urged the women to utilise it effectively for the purposes it is intended for so as to draw more support for other women who are yet to benefit. She pleaded with those who were not part of the recent batch of beneficiaries to be patient as the gesture will eventually go round.
Highpoint of the event was the offering of prayers of goodwill by the elated women for Mrs. Inyang and her husband.
