The Uyo Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Monday, reiterated its desire to rid Akwa Ibom State of corruption.
The pledge was made by the anti-graft agency through its Uyo Zonal Head of Operations, Abdulkareem Chukkol, during a sensitization exercise organized to commemorate the 2017 International Anti-Corruption Day in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom capital.
Chukkol while interacting with newsmen stated that the EFCC is in Akwa Ibom to tackle and defeat all forms of financial and economic crimes, and implored the Akwa Ibom populace to utilize the proximity offered them by EFCC.
“The essence of this road-walk is to raise public awareness against corruption. We all know what corruption is all about and the damages it has caused. The effects of corruption are felt in all sectors. It is an impediment to the sustainable development goals. We are here to be near to the people; the people should make good use of this opportunity. We need the overwhelming support of like-minded people in this mission of wiping out corruption in the state”, he explained.
Chukkol revealed that since resuming operations in August 2017, the Uyo Zonal Office has been inundated with many cases of corruption cases, and promised that the agency will ensure that culprits are promptly brought to book.
The road-walk which drew hordes of participants from all walks of life criss-crossed virtually all the major streets in Uyo metropolis.
The Uyo Zonal Office of the EFCC is located at No. 3 Akparawa Crescent, Edet Akpan Avenue (4Lanes), Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
