In a bid to help his constituents become self-reliant through the many opportunities abound in the agricultural sector of Akwa Ibom state, the Senator Representing Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District, Senator Godswill Akpabio Obot Akpabio on Thursday 14th December, officially flaged-off his 2017 Entrepreneurship Training and Empowerment Programme for Cassava and Oil Palm.

While giving his welcome Address at Ikot Ekpene Council Secretariat, Senator Akpabio said that the training programme is organised by Agricultural And Rural Management Training Institute (ARMITI) as part of his constituency project.

“These training programme with beneficiaries across the 10 Local Government Areas of Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District, will in this phase accommodate about 200 youths and women”.

He noted that the aim of the training is to ensure that the people of the area are gainfully engaged in order to become self sufficient in food production.

Akpabio, who is also the Senate Minority Leader, maintained that the training is among the series of programmes that is lined up for the empowerment of the people of the area through employment generation, poverty reduction and to enhance wealth creation in the state.

“On my own part, I will continue to be your worthy representative and looking for opportunities and grants to you the beneficiaries of these trainings to establish your small scale businesses because my number one job in Abuja is to make sure that you, my people get opportunities to better your your lives”.

He also pointed out that the agricultural sector offers vast opportunities and employs over 70% of the labour force, adding that it provides food for the country as well as raw materials for local industries.

“The exportation of the agricultural products helped our country in taking giant strides towards economic growth thereby culminating in infrastructure development”

While charging the beneficiaries of the programme to make effective use of the training in order to actualize the Dakkada philosophy of Governor Udom Emmanuel by eradicating poverty among the youths in our society.
