UYO – THE Maiden edition of #NaijaMicIcon, a talent search cum reality TV contest aimed at discovering, coaching and rewarding gifted persons in music, comedy and spoken word poetry will be hosted in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State Capital, IBOM REPORTERS have gathered.
Mr. Amaechi Obi, the Reality Tv show Production Consultant gave the hint during a press conference and official unveiling of the brand at Le Méridien Ibom Hotel & Golf Resort, Uyo.
Mr Obi said the brand under JM Keelings foundation, particularly aims at finding and rewarding entertainers whose act will rouse a socially conscious entertainment revolution in Africa and beyond.
He said: “For the past decade, reality television and talent hunts have attracted the attention of top companies, the media and the public in Africa. While some have helped launch off the careers of many promising and high flying entertainers so far, it is worthy to note that they have been more focused on making the overall winners successful in their music or dance career with little or less focus on channeling their art directly towards societal progress.
“A look at the entertainment industry in Nigeria has shown a lot of young talents who through their acts, eloquence and proficiency in instrument and music have exposed genres that would ordinarily not be recognized or patronized. Today, because of their boldness and peculiarity away from mainstream music, they have become renowned. These include a few like Asa, Bez, Dare Art Alade, Timi Dakolo, Omawunmi, to mention a few. Their music have remained socially conscious and have helped awakened the nation and individuals to issues beyond just dancing and love songs. It was in this vein that the MIC ICON brand was created.”
According to Mr Obi, auditions for the show will begin in January, 2018 across major cities in Nigeria including Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Enugu and Uyo as the Centre Hub while the main event will kick-start in the first quarter of 2018. From the auditions, each host state will produce five contestants made up of two musicians, two comedians and one spoken word artiste. The auditions will determine the best 21 that will be sent to the MIC ICON Lodge for subsequent training and further elimination.
Speaking further, Mr Obi said the lodge will house the contestants for 61 days within which eliminations will be carried out every weekend leading to the grand finale. In the lodge, the contestants will be trained on various aspects of their careers and made to rehearse ahead of their performances. There will be celebrity visits and live coaching. Chaperons and live/recording crew will be in the lodge with the contestants throughout the period.
He restated that while in the lodge, eliminations will be carried out to determine the finalists that will be sent to the grand finale, a live elimination show/concert to be hosted in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. These persons will be asked to compose original works with Nigeria as its theme as their winning entry.
Mr. Richard Okon, the TV Show Business Development Consultant told IBOM REPORTERS that the show will be aired live on television while the audience will also be given the opportunity to view some of the activities in the MIC ICON lodge via live streaming on the internet through platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter as well as the project’s website.
Mr Richard told our correspondent that the grand finale will be a live show and concert that will feature elimination performances from the finalists alongside live performances by selected celebrity artistes in music, comedy and spoken word poetry. The final winner(s) in each category of music, comedy and spoken word poetry will be determined by the voting carried out for the contestants before the show, the response of the crowd to their performances and the judges’ final decision.
IBOM REPORTERS learned that the overall winner of the show will be given a whooping sum of N5million and a brand new SUV. The runners up in the other categories will get N3million and N1.5 million respectively.
The TV/Talent search series is open to partnerships with brands, companies and organizations as well as individuals that wishes to garner leverage through the platform and support young talented persons who will eventually emerge as winners.
